THE principal of Fundukhaliphe High School in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, was yesterday denied bail by the local magistrate's court and referred back to hospital where he was allegedly admitted for asthma.

Themba Maphisa, 41, was arrested early this month for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl - apparently his cousin - in his office. Denying him bail the court said it was waiting for DNA test results and postponed the matter to December 4.

A condom with semen that was allegedly used by Maphisa was found hidden in a book in his office. This after the girl had allegedly told police that Maphisa had used a condom.

The girl also told the investigating officer that the clothes Maphisa's was wearing on the day of the rape had blood stains. Police found the clothes in the boot of his car and have also taken these for DNA testing.
