THE eighth edition of the annual Peter Mokaba Memorial Golf Challenge will finally take place on Sunday at the Koro Golf Club in Modimolle, Limpopo.

The prestigious golf tourney in honour of the former ANC Youth League leader could not be played in its traditional month of June due to a lack of funds.

The tournament's main sponsor, LimDev, the Limpopo parastatal, pulled out and left the organisers, the Limpopo Eagles Golf Association (Lega), in the lurch.

Lega's spokesperson Pat "Fingers" Moyaha said they were humbled by people who came forward to make sure the tournament took place.

"Since we opened for registration last week we have received a good response and support from golfers throughout the country, as well as a few from Botswana, who have already filled the afternoon tee-off," Moyaha said yesterday. "The participation fee of R200 will cover green fees, golf apparel, halfway refreshment and dinner.

"We are calling on the golfers to register before the end of business tomorrow because the first-come, first-served principle will apply.

"The only remaining spaces are for the morning tee-off."
