THE LIMPOPO Women in Business (LIWIB) has expressed confidence that this year's crime and HIV-Aids awareness campaign will attract more participants than the previous events.

THE LIMPOPO Women in Business (LIWIB) has expressed confidence that this year's crime and HIV-Aids awareness campaign will attract more participants than the previous events.

The annual event is scheduled for October 29 with a convoy of more than 500 cars driving from Seshego Stadium to Oscar Mpetha Stadium at the University of Limpopo in Mankweng.

Last year's event attracted 415 cars and was also attended by then MEC for local government and housing Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, who is now Minister for International Relations, and one of President Jacob Zuma's wives, MaNtuli Zuma.

LIWIB president Maria Bongwe said the aim of the campaign was to create awareness about the escalating rate of crime and HIV-Aids.

"We have decided to stand up and do something about the prevalence of crime and HIV-Aids so that communities in Limpopo get to appreciate the seriousness of the two issues," Bongwe said.

"We hope that engaging in a convoy will go a long way to conscientising communities about the awareness."

The LIWIB was formed in 2006 and and has contributed greatly to the upliftment of poor people.

Among other things the organisation has managed to build five houses in each of the five districts in the province and impoverished families have benefited from the houses.

In 2007 the LIWIB raised funds to bury the 20 people who had died in an accident when two buses collided head-on near Louis Trichardt.
