The dagga was found kept in a two-roomed house in the village.
The 105 bags of dagga were seized by the police after a tip-off.
Police spokesperson Inspector Seth Magadzi said the suspect escaped when he realised the police were coming to the house.
Magadzi said the suspect is alleged to have moved to the area from Mokgoloboto village, a few kilometres from Khopho village, where the dagga was seized.
"While he was still staying at Mokgoloboto the police seized five bags containing dagga from him."
It is alleged that the suspect gets the dagga from Lesotho and that he also supplies local dealers.
According to Magadzi it looks as if the house in which the dagga was kept was used as a storeroom. There was nobody there when the police arrived.
He appealed to members of the community who might know the man's whereabouts to contact the local police.
Meanwhile, local community members said the conduct of many youths in the area had changed because of the dagga.
Another concerned parent called on the police not to rest until they bring the suspect to book.
