A MASSIVE manhunt is on for two men who hijacked a car in Umlazi, Durban, shot the driver and made off with a woman who was in the car.

The incident happened on Wednesday night.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Buhle Ngidi said a man was getting water in Umlazi's F-section at about 9pm when they were hijacked.

"Apparently two men jumped into the car, one in front and the other at the back and forced the man in. They drove towards Isipingo and when they were near the Metro Police offices, the man jumped out.

"The suspects shot him and left him there, thinking he was dead," said Ngidi.

Ngidi said police were still unable to confirm the relationship between the man and the woman.

"We are investigating a case of hijacking, attempted murder and kidnapping. The woman is still missing," he said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the man was shot twice in the chest by the hijackers.

"The man alleges that he was forced out of the car while the hijackers drove towards the N2 carriageway near Isipingo. The hijackers are thought to have then fired two shots at him ... one of which struck him in the chest."
