downs import shines

IT WAS a coup of sorts when Mamelodi Sundowns lured Matthew Pattison from Norwich City in England into their stable at the start of the season.

The well-spoken Pattison has wasted little time endearing himself to the the Brazilians faithful with his hard-working approach and his confidence after they had misgivings about him in his first few matches for the club.

After time spent acclimatising and getting used to the very different South African game, Pattison - who has played in almost all of Sundowns' matches so far - fancies his team's chances of claiming a second consecutive victory tomorrow when they welcome Kaizer Chiefs to Super Stadium at 3.30pm.

"We can hopefully get the three points on Saturday. We can only be confident of our chances at this point, although we would not want to get carried away by our last win," Pattison said.

With Mabhuti Khenyeza and Katlego Mphela back from their European sojourn with Bafana Bafana, Downs will not lack firepower and should prove a handful for the Chiefs defenders.

Chiefs' Abia Nale, David Mathebula and Thomas Sweswe are not available for this clash, while Mandla Masango has recovered from an injury he sustained at the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.

Amakhosi's Serbian mentor Vladimir Vermezovic shrugged off concerns over the missing players.

"I want to have all players available for games but at times in football it is not always the case. The injuries to the two are not serious.

"Nale is struggling with a hamstring while David Mathebula is struggling with his groin. Both players are undergoing rehabilitation and will not be rushed back into action," Vermezovic told the Chiefs website.

Chiefs players to watch include Kaizer Motaung Jnr and Josta Dladla.
