TWO years after the Auditor-General's office recommended that state departments in Limpopo must recover R270million from civil servants engaged in unauthorised businesses with the government, nothing has happened.

This emerged during the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) hearing in Polokwane that heads of departments in Limpopo are not willing to act as instructed by the Auditor-General.

Members of the committee expressed concern at the unwillingness of the heads of departments to implement the recommendations by Auditor-General to prevent fraud and corruption.

The committee asked departmental heads one after the other about how far they had gone recouping money that civil servants had gained illegally.

Scopa chairperson Derrick Ngobeni said if the heads failed to act they could be liable for the recovery.

He warned that the officials could even be liable to prosecution and made to pay back from their salaries.
