Mamelodi Sundowns striker Lerato Chabangu handed himself in to the Booysens police yesterday.

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Lerato Chabangu handed himself in to the Booysens police yesterday.

This after a woman opened a case of assault against the footballer on Sunday.

"He handed himself in this morning and he was charged with common assault," said Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik.

Chabangu is accused by Busisiwe Lekuba of Ormonde, south of Johannesburg, of assault.

He allegedly visited Lekuba's house with three friends who were drinking whiskey and beers.

Lekuba claims Chabangu became violent when she told him that her husband was coming to pick her up for an outing.

Chabangu's troubles with the law are well documented. In May last year the 23-year-old player was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding in his Audi A3 in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni.

Four months earlier, he was arrested for speeding in the same car on the N1 highway in Johannesburg.
