Nafcoc announced on Wednesday that Mthethwa and her deputy, Vish Maharaj, have been suspended for "bringing the organisation's name into disrepute".
The suspensions followed a recent march to the offices of Nafcoc's investment arm, Nafhold, wherethe marchers demanded among others the resignations of Nafhold chief executive Michael Leaf and chairperson Joe Hlongwane.
Though one of the conditions of their suspension was that they should not talk to the media on issues pertaining to Nafcoc, Mthethwa rubbished claims that she has been suspended and called forNafhold to be liquidated.
Mthethwa said the federal council of Nafcoc had not taken any decision to suspend or remove any member of the national executive, including her.
She accused Leaf and Hlongwane of fanning divisions in Nafcoc.
"They are trying to keep Nafcoc shares for themselves. Since 2007 they have been promising that the issuing of shares will be finalised, but that has not happened," she fumed.
She said the Hawks and the South African Revenue Service should probe Nafhold and its executives.
"We are dealing with thugs and corrupt individuals who will go the extra mile to divide us," she said.
She said Leaf and Hlongwane used people who lacked credibility to spread malicious rumours about her.
Nafcoc Treasurer-General Jabu Khumalo said people who announced Mthethwa's suspension were not in good standing with the organisation. "Those people are not affiliated to Nafcoc," he said.
Attempts to get hold of Nafcoc's spokesperson Lawrence Mavundla proved fruitless as he did not answer his phone.
