AJAX Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral has resigned.

AJAX Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral has resigned.

Club CEO George Comitis said yesterday that the Turk has been offered a "highly lucrative" contract with Turkish Premier Club Sivasspor, who were last season's runners-up in the league.

"It is with regret that I announce the immediate departure of our head coach, Muhsin. The Turkish club have dismissed their current coach and approached our coach. This is an offer that Muhsin cannot refuse and it has always been his dream to coach a top-level team in Turkey," Comitis said.

The development has thrown the immediate future of the Urban Warriors into turmoil, after a positive start to the season. The sixth-placed Capetonians are scheduled to meet Lamontville Golden Arrows in the final of the MTN8 Cup on October 24 at Orlando Stadium.

Development coach Jan Pruijn will take charge of the team while they look for a new head coach.

"Ajax Cape Town will never stand in the way of any footballer or coach who gets an opportunity to further their career with an overseas contract," Comitis said.

"On the positive side, this will open a door for us into Turkey for our players seeking to play at a higher level.

"T his has been an amicable separation and we wish Muhsin all the best with his new job."

Some Ajax players reacted with shock when contacted for comment .

"We have been on a few days' leave and are not aware of this. We are only going back tomorrow," one player said.

Ertugral rejoined Ajax at the beginning of this season after an acrimonious parting of ways with Kaizer Chiefs.
