Claims slated

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said yesterday it was ready to meet the residents of Kennedy Road after concerns were raised by Abahlali Basemjondolo.

ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala "rejected with contempt" allegations that the ANC in the province was not willing to engage with the people of Kennedy Road and Abahlali Basemjondolo.

He rejected allegations that an attack in Kennedy Road two weeks ago in which two people were killed, was orchestrated by the ANC.

Zikalala said it was "malicious" as police investigations had already "confirmed that the attack was criminal activity". He said the party had an open door policy and was ready to listen and engage the people of Kennedy Road, who include Abahlali Basemjondolo.

Zikalala's comment comes amid growing outrage expressed by local and international clergy, civic and academic organisations following the violent attacks on the leaders of Abahlali Basemjondolo.
