Fake employment conman arrested

POLICE in Tzaneen, Limpopo, have charged a 26-year-old alleged conman after he tricked desperate job-seekers into parting with their hard-earned cash.

POLICE in Tzaneen, Limpopo, have charged a 26-year-old alleged conman after he tricked desperate job-seekers into parting with their hard-earned cash.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday after some of his victims laid charges of theft at the local police station. The suspect, pretending to be an agent for various businesses in Tzaneen, defrauded more than five job-seekers of between R600 and R1200 each.

Police say the suspect promised the victims that they would be offered jobs at Sasko, Sunbake and Pick n Pay stores if they paid him.

According to police spokesperson Captain Simon Shikwambana the alleged victims realised that they were defrauded after they approached the companies and were told there were no such jobs.

Shikwambana appealed to other people who might have fallen for the same trick to contact the police. The suspect was due to appear in court yesterday.
