AMAZULU coach Neil Tovey has praised new kid on the block Thamsanqa Sangweni, describing him as a gem.

Sangweni, 19, younger brother of Bafana Bafana and Lamontville Golden Arrows defender Siyabonga Sangweni, plays in the heart of the Usuthu midfield, a position formerly occupied by Bafo Biyela. Since his first game for AmaZulu against Santos, the young Sangweni has won accolades from Tovey, who played in the same position at AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs.

"The way he holds the ball in the middle of the park is amazing. He is still young and needs to get more game time," said Tovey.

Teammate Ntokozo Sikhakhane said: "He does all the hard work and reads the game well. He does not put a foot wrong and his ball distribution is wonderful."
