Amajita crash to Ghana

GHANA defeated Amajita 2-1 after extra time to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2009 World Youth Championships finals in Ismaila, Egypt, last night.

GHANA defeated Amajita 2-1 after extra time to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2009 World Youth Championships finals in Ismaila, Egypt, last night.

It was sweet revenge for Ghana, who went down 5-3 to the South African U-20 national side in a friendly in Accra recently.

Last night, South Africa were the first to draw blood in the 58th minute through Kermit Erasmus's third goal of the tournament.

Andre "Dede" Ayew levelled matters with a header in the 66th minute to easily beat goalie Darren Keet.

Dominic Adiyiah scored the all-important goal in the ninth minute of extra time with a brilliant 25m drive to ensure that Ghana reached the last-eight round. Serame Letsoaka, Amajita's coach, said: "We gave it our best shot, it was not our day after missing quite a number of scoring opportunities. I felt we deserved to win."
