FUN DAY FOR WHOLE FAMILY

By Victor Mecoamere

EVERYONE is invited to the North West Family Fun Day at Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng on October 10.

Admission to this fun-filled nation-building event is spare clothes, books and nonperishable food for charity. Parents and teenage children are invited to take part in a unique letter-writing competition.

The event is aimed at enhancing the importance of the family as the foundation of any community. Also to strengthen society's worth and ensure that a benefiting nation will be counted among the best, most visionary and thriving in the constantly evolving global village.

It is expected to contribute meaningfully to the province's economic and tourism development, expose local artists to their fans, create employment and - above all - contribute to moral regeneration, family values and local business development in a fun-filled manner.

Several charities will benefit from the clothes, nonperishable foods and books that will be donated as an entry fee by patrons, while parents and their teenage children are being invited to write to each other to start a new culture of open communication between adults and the youth.

The three top letters from teenagers to their parents or guardians will appear in Sowetan's nation-building pages. The same goes for the three top letters from parents or guardians to their children, charges or protégés.

Family fun activities include a fun run and walk, indigenous games, team-building sessions and children's entertainment such as jumping castles, jungle gyms, bike rides, face painting and circus acts.

Conceived by Moses Odirile Banyatsi of Mob Unlimited Productions, the family fun day is the latest addition to the Sowetan and Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation's youth and community development activities portfolio.

Sowetan's nation building or corporate social investments and responsibility work thrives on solid partnerships such as this one.

Fellow sponsors and organisers of the event include Pick n Pay, Baden Mafikeng, Nkwe Stationers and Office Suppliers, Jetline Mmabatho and Tholo Granite Works, while the celebrity contingent is due to come from the cast and crew of the SABC3 soapie Isidingo.
