SEVEN Swazi soldiers have been charged with murdering a South African man who allegedly crossed into the kingdom illegally to visit his girlfriend.

The remains of Sfiso Shabangu, 27, who was allegedly murdered on August 20, were exhumed by South African police on Saturday.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said yesterday that Shabangu allegedly crossed into Swaziland illegally to visit his girlfriend and was arrested by Swazi soldiers.

"An eyewitness said the soldiers assaulted Shabangu. After he died they took his body and dumped it in a shallow grave near the South African border.

"An eyewitness informed the South African police on September 27 and a murder case was opened against seven Swazi soldiers. Investigations are continuing," said Hlathi.
