Sithole returns to helm

FREE State Stars have re-appointed Themba Sithole as head coach after Brazilian Jose Georgini Claudei Valinhos' shock resignation on Friday.

FREE State Stars have re-appointed Themba Sithole as head coach after Brazilian Jose Georgini Claudei Valinhos' shock resignation on Friday.

Valinhos, 62, who joined Stars two weeks ago, reportedly left after disagreements with the club about his training methods and some of his selections. He had signed a two-year contract with Stars, where he was going to earn about R100000 a month.

"The old man has decided to leave. We could not stop him because he had made up his mind," Rantsi Mokoena, Stars' brand manager, said yesterday.

"We have since appointed Themba as head coach. We are going to support him throughout because we strongly believe he will turn Stars into a formidable side.

"You saw the game against Orlando Pirates on Saturday where Themba was in charge. It was a more improved Free State Stars. We should have won that match (a 0-0 draw)."

Valinhos, who is already back in Brazil, could not be reached yesterday.
