DESPITE their 61-27 victory over the Griquas at Loftus on Saturday, Blue Bulls captain Victor Matfield says their performance against the visitors was not convincing.

"We did not give a 100 percent performance on the day though we managed to score eight tries and earned a bonus point," the Springbok vice-captain said.

"We committed unnecessary mistakes and made too many wrong decisions throughout the match and this really bothered me. We lost our grip on the match late in the second half and consequently allowed the Griquas to secure a bonus point on the stroke of full-time. But I am happy that we managed to register an important bonus point win."

He promised that they would fine-tune certain areas before their last league match against the Leopards on Friday in Rustenburg. The Bulls have moved to third on the log with 41 points, two points ahead the Griquas and have secured a semifinal place.

On the other hand, ill-discipline led the Griquas to their worst defeat of the season, with the sin-binning of captain Jonathan Mokoena and flank partner Rohan Kitsho for foul play proving costly.

Star wing Bryan Habana and accurate goal kicker Morne Steyn scored two tries apiece for the Bulls. The last four came from Zane Kirchner, Danie Rossouw, Pierre Spies and substitute Bandise Maku. Steyn added 19 points with the boot .

Sarel Pretorius, Davon Raubenheimer, Barry Geel and Naas Olivier scored the Griquas' tries. Olivier converted twice and scored a penalty.

Other results: Sharks 19, Lions 17; Western Province 50, Boland 7; Cheetahs 60, Leopards 17.
