THE Mpumalanga government has assured the public that the collapse of a bridge on the multi-million rand 2010 road project in the area will not affect the deadline.

Construction of the Nelspruit Northern Bypass, which is expected to ease traffic congestion during next year's World Cup, suffered a major setback last week when two beams collapsed while beingplaced on the bridge over the N4 road.

Department of public works, roads and transport spokesperson David Nkambule said "the collapse was caused by turbulence and vibration of the road emanating from heavy duty vehicles travelling on the west-bound lane of the N4".
