From as early as 11am on Saturday the province's fun lovers, mostly the youth, made Coronation Park in Mogale City look like a real beach on the country's coast as they dressed to impress and to reveal their assets.
It looked as if it was a party to show off who has the most impressive curves as they came in beach gear.
Some outfits were so revealing that one wonders whether parents know of the existence in their households of such short skirts. It was scary.
Yet others were so conservative in their dress sense it did not look as if they were at a beach party, but rather at a church function. But what united the between 10000 and 15000 crowd was their desire to have fun.
The 30 DJs and musicians who performed were in their element. Notable for her energetic dance routines and her party music was Winnie Khumalo. Her stage act was top class, her dance routines energetic and the crowd responded in hysterical fashion, especially when she performed her hit song Live my life, which will definitely be this year's festive song.
T-Bo Touch, the presenter of SABC1's music show, One, played interesting tunes that set the whole scene ablaze.
The crowd was generally well behaved. One sad case, though, was that of a young girl who must have mistaken the event for a strip- tease. I am not sure if the organisers expect revellers to go on stage, clad in a micro-mini and prancing about with no underwear in the name of fun as this drunk teenager did.
The beach party also coincided with the popular Miss Tropika pageant .
