THREE suspected hijackers are under guard in hospital after they were wounded during a shoot-out with Pretoria police.

THREE suspected hijackers are under guard in hospital after they were wounded during a shoot-out with Pretoria police.

Klipgat police Inspector Nelson Mabuza said they were alerted that a vehicle hijacked in Pretoria on Wednesday was spotted in Mabopane.

He said police gave chase and the four passengers starting shooting. "The police returned fire, wounding three suspects. One fled."

Mabuza said that the trio, aged between 22 and 29, will be charged with attempted murder.

Meanwhile, Captain Charl Scheepers was shot dead by robbers in Lynn-wood, Pretoria, yesterday. A suspect has confessed to the shooting, police said. - Sipho Masombuka and Pertunia Rastatsi
