A man was allegedly beaten up by a taxi driver at a rank in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, because of his political allegiance to the ANC, police said.

Captain Vusi Mbatha said yesterday no arrests had been made. The man sustained minor injuries.

Mbatha also said the police believed that the man who was beaten up was the son of a former IFP councillor who left the party to join the ANC.

"A case of common assault was opened. The victim said hecould point out the man who beat him up if he saw him."

The IFP has condemned any politically-related violence. - Sapa
