A SCHOOL principal in Mothomeng village outside Tzaneen appeared in the Bolobedu magistrate's court yesterday on a charge of intimidation after he allegedly sent threatening SMSes to two members of the school governing body.

Modipe High School principal Moruti Mawila allegedly used a "new sim card" to send threatening SMSes to SGB treasurer Terence Ramatladi and chairperson Lazarus Kobela.

Sowetan has seen one of the messages, which reads in part: "I told you that you will pay one day and by death. I therefore advise you to step down as sgb member before you die."

Police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said Mawila was arrested and charged with intimidation.

"He was released on free bail. His next court appearance will be on October 27," he said.
