A CATFIGHT has broken out between top socialites Uyanda Mbuli and Khanyisile Mbau over their social status, triggered by the recent Olay Iconic Women Awards.
Yesterday Mbuli used social networking site Twitter to hit back at Malcom X for suggesting that he would not have objected to Mbuli being named the Media Personality instead of Edith Venter. On Tuesday night at the awards ceremony, Malcom X stormed the stage and said Mbau should have won it instead of Venter. He said Venter was no longer a relevant socialite.
Mbuli said on Twitter she did not want her name to be mentioned in the same sentence as that of the self-styled queen of bling because they are not of the same social status. Later she told Sowetan that those were her views and she didn't see anything wrong with expressing them.
"Actually, let me not glorify this madness with a comment. Edith deserved to win and I personally look up to her in terms of what she has achieved over the years as a business woman and high-profile socialite."
Mbau told Sowetan that it was not a problem that Mbuli was thinking like that about her, or anyone else for that matter.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What I can say is that I am hot and her comments cannot take that away from me."
A Yfm radio interview caused an uproar with fellow twitters and radio listeners joining in on the debate. One of Mbuli's followers asked her directly about this.
Lue Nxumalo wrote: "Bathong ... am listening 2 Yfm ... kanti wat happened on tuesday @ the awards?... @ UyandaM i keep on hearing yr name ... Something abt n award belonging to u or Khanyi Mbau"
Mbuli replied: "Eish, let's take it easy on mentioning those 2 names in one sentence PLS."
Nxumalo replied: "OK_LOL ( laugh out loud)."
