Gravy train for councillors?

THE government is serious about improving councillors' salaries but councillors will have to work harder if they want to earn as much as MPs, says Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Yunus Carrim.

THE government is serious about improving councillors' salaries but councillors will have to work harder if they want to earn as much as MPs, says Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Yunus Carrim.

Carrim said this yesterday after Minister Sicelo Shiceka's statement earlier in the week that the government was thinking of equalising the salaries of councillors and MPs.

Carrim said the debate was still in "the very early stages" . and the government was "acutely mindful of budgetary constraints". - Anna Majavu
