The portfolio areas are education, health, arts and culture, sport and under-utilised assets. Through these Transnet has established a strong partnerships with the government, non-governmental organisations, business and community organisations.
Through the 2009 Transnet Foundation Internal Choirs Competition, which takes place at the Mosaiek Lifestyle Auditorium in Fairland, Joburg, on October 10, staffers give back to the public through musical performances.
Theatre and screen actor, playwright and director Jerry Mofokeng is the show's producer. The show features poet Lebo Mashile and choregrapher Sylvia Glasser's Moving Into Dance company presenting the award-winning piece, Thread.
Also adding impact will be the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by guest soloists and under the baton of Theo van Wyk.
"This year's event has all the hallmarks of being something truly out of this world, Susie Mabie, the foundation's senior manager for arts and culture, said this week.
"Together with the talented Jerry Mofokeng,we have given the choirs that have reached this final stage a brilliant context in which to perform.
"We believe that this goes a long way towards our mandate of enabling the arts to grow and making a meaningful contribution to South Africa's Gross Domestic Product, as well as the holistic development of our employees," Mabie said.
The Internal Choirs Competition is a key element of the Transnet Foundation's arts and culture and cultural industries portfolio. Through this competition, Transnet invests in the holistic growth of its human resources and boosts staff morale.
The foundation also partners the Massed Choir Festival, a nation-building project of Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation, which takes place at the Standard Bank Arena on October 25. Admission is R30, programmes R10.
