ESKOM'S request for an extension of the deadline for its tariff submission to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa has been denied.

ESKOM'S request for an extension of the deadline for its tariff submission to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa has been denied.

Nersa said it was expecting Eskom's tariff submission late yesterday. "Eskom did request an extension but it was not granted," the regulator said.

Nersa denied it was doing Eskom's work by communicating on its website, in advance, that it saw electricity tariffs rising by no less than 30percent

It recently granted Eskom a 31,3percent tariff hike. Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said the submission had been completed and the utility had complied with Nersa regulations.

He said Eskom would meet Nersa's deadline and would also send its submission to the national Treasury as well as to the South African Local Government Association. - Sapa
