I AM very upset by the incident that happened in Mpumalanga, in which three and six-year-old children were shot by the police.

How can you shoot a child of such a tender age and claim it was in self-defence? I think the shoot-to-kill rule should be clear to police officers.

The police are violent and will cause our government to spend unnecessary funds on compensating the victims of such reckless incidents. The last time it happened it involved an innocent girl who was shot at the University of Limpopo during protest by students. She is now confined to a wheelchair.

We cannot tolerate such actions from our police officers.

Police officers must not abuse the "shoot-to-kill" order from their superiors to sow mayhem.
