WESTERN Province coach Allister Coetzee attributed his Absa Currie Cup coach of the month award for September to his superb athletes and the support of the team management.

Coetzee, the Super 14 assistant coach, received the award yesterday while Cheetahs wing Lionel Mapoe took home the player of the month award.

An excited Coetzee said: "I have a magnificent group of athletes who put great effort in the team and extra support from the management.

"It's a great privilege and honour to receive this kind of recognition.

"While I accept the award, I accepted it on behalf the stakeholders who had tremendously contributed to the success of the team."

The Western Cape outfit have enjoyed an impressive run this season and are second on the log with 44 points, one point behind defending champions the Sharks. Coetzee's charges are on the verge of securing a home semifinal should they win the two remaining league games.

Mapoe's consistency has kept the Cheetahs in the running for a semis spot. He was also a splendid performer for the Springboks Sevens team in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
