'we can beat ajax'

PLATINUM Stars captain Stanley "Bingo" Kgatla is optimistic about his team's chances against Ajax Cape Town tonight, despite the visitors' feat at the weekend.

PLATINUM Stars captain Stanley "Bingo" Kgatla is optimistic about his team's chances against Ajax Cape Town tonight, despite the visitors' feat at the weekend.

The two teams clash in an Absa Premiership match at the new Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg, with the Urban Warriors buoyed by their 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns. The kickoff is at 7.30pm.

The industrious Stars midfielder thinks Ajax could have trouble concentrating because they have a depleted squad. Ajax could also have one eye on the MTN8 Cup final against Lamontville Golden Arrows in two weeks' time.

As for their own poor form - with just one win in eight league matches - Kgatla thinks with patience the tide will turn in their favour.

"We have played well, but have been very unlucky. Ajax is a great team with young, pacy players, and they are naturally on a high after their win at the weekend against Sundowns. However, we should be able to compete and only a win will do," he said.

Stars will have to make do without Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela, who is nursing a hamstring injury, Dillon Sheppard and Jabu Mahlangu, while Oscar Ntwagae is doubtful after he was concussed in the Tycoons' match against Orlando Pirates.

Ajax players and technical staff could not be reached for comment yesterday as they were on their way to Johannesburg.
