Government still to act on R6m fraud case

THE Limpopo department of agriculture has not taken a decision on officials who allegedly transferred R6million into a private bank account.

The department said investigations were still under way and that a decision would be made next week.

Financial intelligence from the bank discovered that the department had transferred the money into the private account without a valid reason. The money was meant to be transferred to the Government Employee Pension Fund but ended in someone's account.

The illegal transfer was discovered after two months by the bank, which later alerted the police.

Sowetan also learnt that the finance department failed to explain why and how the money was transferred to the private bank account.

Agriculture MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba said yesterday that she had ordered an intensive investigation to be conducted into the case.
