A taste of real Indian dance

KWAZULU-NATALIANS wanting to get a taste of real Indian classical dance are in for a major treat .

A 12-member "Bhangra" Dance Troupe from New Delhi, India, will be visiting Durban from October 12 to 17. The trip has been sponsored by the New Delhi and the Indian Cultural Centre of the Consulate General of India.

Bhangra is the most popular and virile of the community dances in India and is closely associated with the ripening of the wheat crop.

"The Bhangra dance has become popular throughout the world," said Durban's Indian Consulate spokesperson Nameshni Govender.

She said another form of dance to be showcased is that of Jhoomar.
