Where are the refs?

STEVE Goddard, chairperson of Safa's referee review committee, has been so busy with Fifa paperwork that his duties in the Vodacom League have been affected.

STEVE Goddard, chairperson of Safa's referee review committee, has been so busy with Fifa paperwork that his duties in the Vodacom League have been affected.

Four matches were postponed after referees failed to pitch up - and Goddard was not aware of that.

Lusitano FC coach Thembinkosi Biyela alleges that his club was supposed to have played Alexandra United on Friday but the match officials did not show up.

"Every time we tried to contact them they told us they were on their way. We have played only five matches since the beginning of the season when it should have been nine," complained the former Kaizer Chiefs striker.

"Four matches ended up being postponed. This is really frustrating because it disrupts our plans and the players lose momentum."

Goddard saidhe was not aware of the situation but promised to investigate.

"I have been busy with Fifa documents that have to go to Zurich soon," he said.

l We erroneously reported yesterday that Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 win against Jomo Cosmos was their second of the season.

It was in fact their third and Sowetan would like to humbly apologise for this error.
