SINGAPORE - Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso's rumoured move from Renault to Ferrari will be officially announced by the Italian marque on Thursday, according to a report in Germany's Auto, Motor und Sport magazine.

The deal for the 28-year-old Spaniard to start racing in 2010 for Ferrari will reportedly be made public ahead of this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit. With Felipe Massa already assured of a seat next year, Kimi Raikkonen will be the person to miss out.

Raikkonen, who won the world championship in 2007 in his first season with Ferrari, will need to be paid compensation as he has a contract until 2010.

It is expected that the 29-year-old Finn will return to former team McLaren-Mercedes where he raced from 2002 until 2006, replacing compatriot Heikki Kovalainen as Lewis Hamilton's teammate.

McLaren and Ferrari's mutual sponsor, Spanish bank Santander, is involved in the financial details of the move. - Sapa-DPA
