The 30-year-old Maseru resident ran a patient and perfectly judged race to take home a whopping R280000 for just under three hours' work, albeit in sweltering conditions.
"I waited in the bunch for most of the race, I noticed that a lot of the guys around me were Comrades runners, so I knew they did not have the speed that I had. When we got to the first big hill I pushed and then finally took the lead with nine kilometres to go".
Second place went to Durban-based Colin Makaza (2:58:13) with long time leader David Gamede (3:00:56) third.
There was drama at the end when Sibusiso Ncube, who finished seventh overall, was disqualified by an appeal jury after it was alleged that he was given a lift along the route by former Comrades winner Fusi Nhlapo.
In the women's race, winner Mamarolla Tjoka was almost ruled out of contention. She has been on a list of banned Lesotho athletes for some time now.
The race was beset with organisational problems with men's third place finisher, Shadrack Hoff, and women's winner Rene Kalmer complained about the lack of water on route.
