KIRSTEN Humbulani Nematandani, the newly elected president of the South African Football Association (Safa), is a born leader.

KIRSTEN Humbulani Nematandani, the newly elected president of the South African Football Association (Safa), is a born leader.

Nematandani has served as a leader in almost every position in soccer administration, starting from the days when he was still a student at the University of Limpopo.

There he rubbed shoulders with household names like Andrew Dipela, Harris Chueu and Junior Ramusi. Nematandani was in charge of Bob squad.

Still at university Nemata-ndani was an athlete par excellence specialising in 400m. He co-founded the university's all-conquering 4x400m relay team.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Management and Bachelor of Science Paed. Nematandani also studied B.Hons in Sport Management at the University of Johannesburg.

He has also done well as a coach, winning the league back to back with Tshibuku Young Stars while still a lecturer at Tshisimani College of Education.

At present Nematandani is doing phase two of his Master in Business Administration.

The former director of sport in the department of sport, arts, culture and recreation in Limpopo, Nematandani has also worked as a manager-coach when he was still a teacher.

Prior to being elected Safa president at the weekend, Nematandani served as convenor of competitions and referees committees, in addition to being an executive member.

Born in Thohoyandou on May 27 1958, he has served as chairman of University Sport South Africa and president of the Vhembe region of Safa.

Nematandani, who has served as head of delegation for various national teams, is the former president of Venda Football Association.
