A commendable best practices model has been established, with the University of Limpopo's Annual Benefit Gala Dinner set to take place in Midrand on November 6.
The event will coincide with the awarding of the Onkgopotse Tiro Excellence Awards and the official launch of the university's alumni.
The University of Limpopo emerged from a merger between the University of the North and Medical University of South Africa in 2005.
The fundraising campaign was pioneered by the university's 1995-96 students representative council, who set up the Students Financial Aid Trust.
The trust has so far awarded bursaries to 310 students at a maximum of R10000 each. Successful students are selected during the SRC's annual general meetings.
It has so far allocated more than R2,9million to needy students.
