ENDING months of extreme tension and bitter lobbying, Kirsten Nematandani was elected new South African Football Association president at the weekend.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Nematandani and to wish him well as he embarks on this challenging journey.

Nematandani will hardly have time to pop the champagne before he has to contend with, among other things, questions about the future of the World Cup that takes place in this country next year.

Leading up to his election, soccer's governing body, Fifa, had expressed concern over what the the battle between Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan would mean for the smooth running of the event. But with Nemantandani taking over this will hopefully no longer cast a dark shadow.
