Confident Proteas braai hopeless New Zealand

JUDGING by the haste with which the Proteas beat an outclassed New Zealand in their ICC Champions Trophy clash at Centurion Park yesterday, you could have sworn they had an early afternoon Heritage Day braai to attend.

JUDGING by the haste with which the Proteas beat an outclassed New Zealand in their ICC Champions Trophy clash at Centurion Park yesterday, you could have sworn they had an early afternoon Heritage Day braai to attend.

Chasing down a modest 215 for victory, the Proteas managed to wrap it up in the 42nd over and win by an impressive five wickets.

Whereas against Sri Lanka the home side looked disjointed, yesterday the bowling attack was more purposeful and the batsmen more confident.

Winning the toss for the second game in a row, skipper Graeme Smith didn't hesitate to send the opposition in to bat. Question marks remain over the opening partnership of Smith (7) and Hashim Amla.

South Africa play England on Sunday.
