SMART PUPILS WIN HANDSOME PRIZES

MEET 13 of the 15 pupils from the three schools that came out tops in the 2009 Blue IQ Smart Young Mindz Challenge and received additional prizes in Johannesburg today.

The pupils recently shared more than R100000 from the challenge, which is sponsored and organised by Gauteng's infrastructure development arm Blue IQ, together with the Gauteng department of education, Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

Blue IQ chairperson Noedeen Isaacs-Mpulo, who is also chief executive of Lefatshe Technologies, used her own money to sponsor laptops, cellphones and digital cameras.

Winners Kathleen Butler, Amy Lochner, Estelle du Plooy, Pamela Cloete and Danica van der Waag of The Way Christian School received laptops.

Second-placed Chloe Melissa Fynn, Reshen Pillay, Kaviesh Gopal, Safeega Mohamed and Zainab Karolia of Willowmoore High School got cellphones.

Third-placed Mohamed Areff, Muhammad Monga, Suhail Ismail, Himal Gangaram and Zaheer Adam of the Roshnee Secondary School received cameras.
