TAKALANI "The Panther" Ndlovu almost sank his claws into Kiko Martinez, his opponent in the IBF junior featherweight title eliminator on Friday, when they faced off yesterday.

The usually composed Sowetan almost lost his cool, his muscles trembling in anticipation.

Photographers, who jostled for a picture, were not aware of the potential fisticuffs that was prevented by Ndlovu's younger brother Nyambeni.

"Friday is around the corner, Takkie," warned Nyambeni, who is assistant trainer to Stanley Ndlovu, their father.

The winner on Friday at Wembley Arena in Johannesburg will challenge IBF holder Celestino Caballero. Ndlovu, 31, is rated fifth while the 23-year-old Spaniard is rated eighth.

They were at the SABC in Auckland Park to promote their 12-rounder that will be televised live on Blow by Blow at 10pm.

This will be Ndlovu's first fight under promoter Branco Milenkovic's Branco Sports Production (BSP).

Stanley assured Milenkovic that he won't regret signing his son. Also present at the gathering were Vus'Umuzi "Marvellous" Malinga and trainer Jabulani Malinga, Michael Schultz and Warren Joubert, who will also be in action on Friday night.

Vus'Umuzi will fight Tanzanian Fadhii Majia for the vacant WBO Africa bantamweight belt while Schultz, making a comeback after 10 years, will fight Oupa Mahlangu over six rounds in the super middleweight division.

Jabulani paid tribute to Milenkovic for not dumping his son after his first-round stoppage defeat by WBC champion Hozumi Hasegawa in March. Milenkovic said his plan for Schultz was to get him a crack at the national title held by Tshepang Mohale. Clearly only God can intervene between "The Warrior" Joubert and S'Fiso Msibi, who will fight for the third time.

Joubert won both of their bloody previous clashes. They will meet over six rounds in the junior lightweight class.

Daniel Bruwer and Ale Mbaya from the Democratic Republic of Congo were missing in action yesterday. They will fight for the vacant WBO Africa junior heavyweight belt. Tickets cost R100 (ringside) and R50 (unreserved) at Computicket and Checkers outlets.
