JAZZ BAND GIG

A RURAL jazz band is about to enjoy the limelight in the mainstream music scene.

A RURAL jazz band is about to enjoy the limelight in the mainstream music scene.

From tomorrow until Sunday Sobamgijima Jazz Band, which is based in Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga, will perform at a number of venues in different towns in North West.

The band will be rocking Boitumelong location and the nearby towns of Hoopstad, Wolmaranstad, Schweizer-Reneke, Christiana, Makwassie, as well as Bloemhof, in the North West this Heritage Day weekend.

The band consists of five members - of whom four are unemployed and depend on the band for an income.

"These are people who have been playing for various bands in the past and were dumped, but they still have talent and skills," said a source who is helping the band break into the music industry.

"The band plays very well and would also like to extend an invitation to people who would like to join the band to contact them," the source said.

"We need people who can play marimba and saxophone."
