LIMPOPO people will be given a pre-Christmas bonanza when Paul Rapetsoa's two plays, Can't Wait and Our Cry, are staged at the Polokwane Library Gardens this week.
The plays will take place today and tomorrow from 7pm. The entrance fee is R40.
Can't Wait is based on chatting, where people create chat rooms on the online system to chat with friends or strangers.
Rapetsoa said the production is about an awareness that pupils become addicted to chat rooms and end up forgetting to do their school work.
"The play is staged mainly to remind pupils about their responsibilities to study their school books," said Rapetsoa.
He said he was wary of a situation in which pupils will fall prey to strangers who may end up abducting them with the aim of abusing them.
"People must be aware that with the start of the 2010 Soccer World Cup we might see a situation where paedophiles take advantage of young people who are using chat rooms and kidnap them," he said.
Rapetsoa said is about the 16 Days of Activism against abuse of women and children.
He said they felt it appropriate to stage a play now that the 16 days were approaching.
"The overall aim is to bring township theatre back in order for the people to get used to night life and visiting theatres during the night," Rapetsoa said.
He said they were going to have the shows until the end of the year.
The very same shows will continue playing on October 15 in the Vaalwater community hall, targeting school kids around the area, and in the Mahwelereng community hall at 7pm on the same day.
The following day it will be staged at the Lebowakgomo Civic Centre, and on October 22 at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane, and on October 23 and 24 it will be staged at the Lenyenye community hall near Tzaneen.
