No joke about ratings

SABC1's reality comedy show So You Think You are Funny is one of the most watched reality shows on local television.

SABC1's reality comedy show So You Think You are Funny is one of the most watched reality shows on local television.

The comedy talent show premiered last November, searching for the funniest people.

Sifiso Kunene of Durban was the winner of the competition. The new season of So You Think You are Funny began on July 27 and was presented by Thomas Gumede.

According to the latest TV audience figures, the show boasts a viewership of more than three million. The viewership figures surpass those of shows such as Zola 7 on SABC1 and Style By Jury on e.tv

Sense of humour

Online television ratings agency, TVSA's Television Audience Measurement Survey, says the show is fourth in the overall top performing shows after Generations, Mtunzini.com and Zulu News.

The show's pioneer Bonke Shipalana believes that it's a feat for a show that is one-year-old and that airs once a week.

"It shows that South Africans, generally, have a great sense of humour and that there has always been room for entertaining comedy shows like this one, hence its overwhelming reception.

"It's a momentous accomplishment to see the show doing so well," said Shipalana.

At fourth, the show, which is currently in its second season, is trailing the ever-popular Generations, at the apex, by just over 1,5million viewers.

So You Think You're Funny gives popular shows like Isidingo, The Oprah Winfrey Show and Muvhango a run for their money with these ratings.
