Mourinho banished

ROME - Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho was hit with a one-match touchline ban and a ß15000 (R164572) fine yesterday after he was sent off during Sunday's 2-1 win at Cagliari.

The Portuguese coach was sent to the stands 13 minutes after the break after protesting vehemently on the sideline when referee Daniele Orsato failed to book Cagliari player Davide Astori for a foul on Inter's Mario Balotelli.

Italy's football judicial body said Mourinho "had theatrically contested a referee's decision and repeatedly directed harsh insults at the referee".

It is not Mourinho's first ban in Italy, having been suspended for one game last season as well.

It was also his third sending-off in Italy - and second by Orsato - after dismissals in home matches against Sampdoria and Fiorentina. - Sapa-AFP
