We needed luck and the generosity of match officials to beat a Madagascar team ranked 131st in the world.

Indications are that even coach Joel Santana has become a tad uninterested. How else would he choose a team that he, club coaches, the players themselves and the public know stands no chance of making the final squad for 2010.

The only thing he and his team might be succeeding at, albeit unintentionally, is to make South Africans limit their expectations come next June.
