This was announced by Safa's chief executive Raymond Hack after the 73rd-ranked Bafana Bafana huffed and puffed before beating Madagascar 1-0 in Kimberley on Saturday.
Madagascar are ranked 131 by Fifa.
"I have been informed by Mark Sutcliffe (Ethekwini municipality manager) that the Moses Mabhida Stadium will not be ready on the day of the match," Hack said.
"We have already advised the football federation of Japan about the change of venue and they have no problem about this. They are ready for the match."
This will be the first time Bafana Bafana play at Orlando Stadium, once the mecca of local soccer.
Bafana Bafana, who do not look anywhere close to a team that will match giants like Brazil, Ivory Coast and Germany at the 2010 World Cup, only trained at this venue.
Before facing the Japanese, Bafana Bafana will be off to Norway for the Nelson Mandela Challenge return tie in Oslo on October 10. The South Africans won the first-leg match in Phokeng in April, courtesy of Siphiwe Tshabalala's goal.
After the Oslo match, Bafana are supposed to play Iceland on October 13 but the match is hanging in the balance.
"There are some issues that we are still dealing with, I should have a definite answer on Monday (today) or Tuesday. We have been offered one or two beneficial games," said Hack.
Sowetan has learnt that the challenges are around the broadcasting rights in Iceland and connecting flights from Oslo to Reykjavik.
