Ussa postpones celebrations after duo get Safa nominations

UNIVERSITY Sport South Africa (Ussa) has congratulated two of their members nominated to serve on the new Safa national executive committee.

UNIVERSITY Sport South Africa (Ussa) has congratulated two of their members nominated to serve on the new Safa national executive committee.

The duo are former Ussa chairperson Kirsten Nematandani and Nomsa Mahlangu, who serves on their executive committee.

After the nomination of Nematandani and Mahlangu, Ussa postponed its 15th anniversary celebrations to avoid a clash with the Safa elections on September 26.

The celebrations, where various sports administrators will be honoured by the country's university sports governing body, will now take place on October 2.

"The Safa election is one hell of a big event that has generated interest throughout the country," said Ussa president Sanele Madlala this week.

"The other thing is that we have two of our members who have been nominated to serve on the new national executive committee of Safa and we wish them well."

Nematandani has also been endorsed by the Football Transformation Forum as one of its two preferred candidates for the position of Safa president. The other is Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan.

Irvin Khoza, the LOC and Premier Soccer League chairperson, is the preferred candidate from the other faction for the position of Safa president.

"We are sure that they will play a great role in the enhancement and administration of football in South Africa," Madlala said.

"It pleases us that more of our former members are now playing a massive role in the administration of sports, the likes of Malesela Maleka, Lerato Mogorosi, Malumbete Ralethe and Andrew Dipela."

Maleka is the president of Basketball South Africa, with Ralethe serving as his deputy. Ralethe is also a board member of the world governing body for university sport. The popular Dipela works as the Ellis Park Stadium venue manager and Mogorosi is media liaison officer for the minister of sport and recreation.
