SONGWRITER, producer and singer Theo Kgosinkwe is the latest addition of local talent to be showcased at the 2009 Transnet and Sowetan Massed Choir Festival at the Standard Bank Arena on October 24.

He will perform with Nhlanhla Nciza. Together they form the powerful kwaito music outfit Mafikizolo.

Described as a spiritual man from a very religious background, Theo has always kept the light of his saviour close to his heart and believes that his success is largely due to his unwavering faith and belief. At present he is riding the the crest of the wave with his debut solo album, I Am.

Mafikizolo, released their self-titled debut album in 1997 and followed it in 1999 with "Music Revolution. Over the years, their trademark sound has been made unique by their ability to blend traditional sounds, African house rhythms and yesteryear's popular marabi genre.

In 2002 the group was honoured with a special Metro FM-Cell C award and won the Best Album at the same awards. In 2003 they won two South African Music Awards for Best Duo or Group and Best Afro Pop album.

Further proof of their success was that their album Sibongile sold more than 300000 copies in 2002 and 2003.

Theo and Nhlanhla will step on the stage as guest artists, sharing the limelight with several championship-winning choirs and other equally-competent choirs in a revamped Festival of Champions.

Participants are Matthews Singers, Belcanto Voices, Gauteng Choristers, South African Police Services Choir, Transnet Choir, Vaal Choristers, African Sweet Melodies, Mogale City Chorale and East Rand Chorale.
