POLICE have launched a manhunt for the people who shot and killed a gardener execution-style yesterday afternoon on a farm outside Pietermaritzburg.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said the police received a report of a robbery and shooting at God's Grave Farm in Nottingham Road.

"On arrival at the scene, the police discovered the body of a 30-year-old male identified as Erasmus Mncube. He had been shot in the head. He was lying on a bed in the bedroom," she said.

Jeevan said initial investigations established that the owners of the farm, Colin and Nola Barrett, were confronted by four men, two of whom were armed with handguns.

"The Barrett's gardener, Erasmus Mncube, saw the unknown men enter the house. He also entered and was held up," she said.

Jeevan said the men forced Colin to open the safe. They removed a 6.35mm pistol and a .38 Special revolver as well as a small amount of cash and credit cards.

"They ordered the Barretts into the bathroom and tied their hands with shoe laces.

"Mncube was forced out of the bathroom. A short while later a gunshot was heard and a vehicle was also heard driving away," she said.

The Barretts managed to untie themselves and thereafter discovered Mncube's body lying on the bed.

"He had been shot execution style - once in the head. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective-Inspector Graeme Baillie on 033- 266-6713 or 082-459-3059.
